I got it for a fairly thick chain. The jaws had to open all the way for one link to pass through. Of course, afterward I didn’t have the strength to close it using only my hands — being out of shape — but with the help of my legs (I placed the handles on the inside of my legs at knee height) the chain broke without much effort and the cutter blades didn’t seem to be affected in the slightest.
