I bought this lens for use on r6 and r6 mark 2. The lens is excellent in terms of construction quality and image, with silent autofocus and very good color accuracy, reminiscent of Canon's L series, for those who want it for photography. Unfortunately, it is useless for video. I tried all the settings and all combinations of stabilizers, and the result is unacceptable, with a permanent tremor that cannot be corrected, not even with Premier's wrap stabilizer. I sent a video sample to Tamron and they told me that the lens is for photography and not for video, and that they cannot do anything about it. They said that if they were customers, the video I sent them would seem satisfactory to them. The video literally looked like it was shot with the camera on a juicer. In my misfortune, I was lucky because I happened to have bought the lens from Mr. Thanos Kalavrentzos, who checked the lens and found it to be flawless in terms of functionality, so there was no problem with it. Nevertheless, he took back the lens and gave me a new Canon lens without even keeping a single euro from me, not even for extra shipping costs. In other words, I paid for the Canon lens as if I had never bought the Tamron lens. I should also mention that I have 14 lenses, 12 of which are EF and 7 without stabilizers, and none of them take such video. In fact, I would say that with the stabilizers that cameras have nowadays, I can shoot good video with all of them. In conclusion, the Tamron lens is an excellent photographic lens that takes unacceptable video, and Mr. Thanos Kalavrentzos is an excellent professional and gentleman.

It was purchased in January 2022 from an authorized dealer. Initially, it was mounted on a Canon 90d. I bought it as an investment because my plan was to later switch to the R6 mirrorless. Unfortunately, the camera and lens never worked together harmoniously. The incredible fast and truly silent autofocus, as well as the sense of solidity it gives, are the only positives. When it comes to the essence of photography, things become difficult.

Within the 4 months that I used it, 6 out of 10 (a tragic number for a lens worth 1200€) photos were completely out of focus at F 2.8 - 4.5, without me making any mistakes. I took the lens to both Canon and Tamron. Canon attributed the issue to the lens. When I went to Tamron and explained that I had taken the camera and lens to Canon, they blamed me for ever taking the lens to Canon (obviously because Canon collaborates with Sigma, a competitor). In the end, Tamron performed a firmware update on the lens and micro adjustment, claiming that they did their best (!!! essentially admitting that something was wrong with the lens), possibly attributing the issue to the 45-megapixel capability of the 90d, which does not tolerate focus errors, without strongly supporting this claim. The result was the same, if not worse. I took the lens back to Tamron and they told me that it might have to be sent to Germany along with the camera for inspection. It is worth noting that the camera never had any out of focus issues with any lens, even the Sigma 2.8 17-50 that I have tested. There was no mention of warranty coverage, I had to endure the hassle of sending the lens externally, etc.

Since the lens was brand new, I decided to give it a chance on a full-frame camera. I updated to the R6 mirrorless with the appropriate adapter and tested it for 2 weeks. The result was definitely better, but not what you would expect when buying a lens for 1200€. Okay, the out of focus issue was definitely better, more tolerable, but at F 2.8-4, the photos came out very soft, which is somewhat reasonable, but not to the extent that it can be justified. Increasing the f-stop to values of 4+ yielded significantly better results, but I didn't buy it for F 4, I bought it for 2.8. In the end, I sold it with minimal loss after 4 months of frustration and complete disappointment.

Conclusion: For those who own full-frame cameras, especially the R5 or R6 mirrorless cameras that perform excellently at high ISO, it would be better to invest an extra 200€ and go for the F 4 24-105 L lens, taking into account that they will also save on size since they won't need to use an adapter, which adds more bulk to the lens and camera kit... The difference is like day and night, without exaggeration.

The lens is decent for its price. It is not the sharpest on the market. However, this won't make a huge difference to an amateur's eyes. Especially when you realize the price difference compared to Canon, which does not have Vibration Compensation. Something that the equivalent Sigma has, but there is absolutely no comparison in terms of usage (the Tamron is miles ahead with its 5-stop VC system). And here again, there is a price difference with Tamron being more affordable. Also, let's talk about the bokeh, which is truly wonderful. The 9 aperture blades provide a very smooth result.

The build quality is also a huge step forward compared to the previous model. The focus ring is precise, as is the magnification ring. Some say it's a bit tight, but for an amateur like me, there is absolutely nothing that bothers me. I struggle a bit with the lens hood. It would be good if Tamron had a mark for the position for each use, as the position for usage is different from the position for storage (unless I haven't found it).

As for its weight, yes, it is a bit heavy, but it is expected for a lens of this category.

Taking all factors into consideration (price, performance, build quality, competition, Vibration Compensation), I couldn't be more satisfied
