After the award-winning translation by Vizyenos, Italian neohellenist Anna Zimbone, a professor at the University of Catania, translates four short stories by Konstantinos Theotokis into Italian. "Pistoma", "Still?", "The Marriage of Stalacti" and "Did He Sin?", as well as an epilogue and a chronology of the author's life, are collected in a beautiful edition that aims to introduce K. Theotokis to Italian-speaking readers.
In Italian
In his Stories, Theotokis presents us with a traditional, immobile world, a world conditioned by natural needs, within which feelings and impulses intertwine and unleash with violence. These are passionate dramas in which the pathos of the protagonists, constantly tense until catharsis, becomes the driving force of the plot, while eros, the sense of honor, and social inequality determine the course of action. The setting is the small, closed, and backward agricultural society of Corfu between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.
