Description

From the preface by the author: "Illusion is not food, said the girl. It is not food, but it nourishes you, said the general." Gabriel García Márquez (1927-2014).

I have no ready political solutions nor recipes for happiness. All I possess is my sustainable depression. Always, throughout my life, I have expressed my passion for what I believe in—my passions, better said—often alone, without claiming infallibility.

Never having acquired a party identity—on principle—I offered to the Left whatever my youthful enthusiasm or the thoughts of maturity inspired me. Hoping that something would change in this country of extreme conservatism.

And now the moment has come for a pseudo-Left to identify itself with both conservatism and retrogression. I do not regret my choices, but I mourn for the lost time, the lost dreams. The willful blindness at times.

Nevertheless, I think that at least today, we all must transcend ourselves and make the mistakes of the past a template for the future. Because I am convinced that much more is at stake now than individual egoism or each one’s party laurels.

Today we must operate beyond the traditional Left and Right. With only the interest of the homeland and future generations in mind. Those generations rendered semi-educated or functionally illiterate by criminal, educational negligence.

This is the deepest cause of decay, the spiritual enslavement of citizens who have methodically turned into viewers—reality show voters. Above all else, and above everyone, right now, the salus patriae and the painful truth must prevail. Everything else we will find later.
