The book by Christos Zafeiris, "Thessaloniki of the Jews" (Epikentro, 2016) is now available in its English translation. Thessaloniki of the Jews is a comprehensive illustrated presentation of the historic and cultural heritage of the Jewry of Thessaloniki. It is an account of the major events in the history of the Jews in this city, Sephardic traditions, Jewish customs, their language and music, great figures, their contributions to the social and economic life of the city, their traditional clothes and food, synagogues, schools, and houses.

The narrative starts from their first arrival in the city, presents their periods of prosperity, and concludes with the Holocaust, which marked the end of their presence in the multicultural Thessaloniki. This book is a historical and tourist guide that includes a large number of photographs and maps, takes the reader on a journey to the Jewish Museum of the city and to the places of social, economic, and cultural life of the Jews of Thessaloniki, as well as to sites of martyrdom and monuments.

An insistent "guide" that refuses oblivion, walks alongside emotion, and honors collective memory. Christos Zafeiris is a journalist and author of twelve historical research books about Thessaloniki, Greeks abroad, and historical Greek sites. He was born in Kraniá Elassónas in 1945 and studied Archaeology and History at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

His work has included radio, television, and newspapers as an editor and news director. He has also worked as a researcher and screenwriter for documentaries about Thessaloniki and Hellenism. His book A Balkan Peddler, about the Greek communities in the Balkans and Central Europe, has been made into a series on ERT (Greek public television). He has also written the historical and tourist guide The Vade Mecum of Thessaloniki.

His latest book is Thessaloniki, the Presence of the Absent. The Heritage of Romans, Muslims, Jews, Donme, Franks, Armenians, and Slavs (2014).
