The album VASOS KAPANTAI GYPS stands out with a large number of sculptures by Vassos Kapantais (1924-1990) - both large and small in size - crafted in bronze and porous stone, as well as reliefs, medals, drawings, and ceramics, that highlight the precision of miniature carving, the clarity of description, and the synthetic abilities of the artist.

A key characteristic of his work is its universality and the transformation of emotion into idea. The album primarily focuses on the private works of Vassos Kapantais, small in size, yet monumental in feeling: works of joy, eroticism, and emotion, with a strong emotional presence, sometimes harsh, cryptic, and at times filled with anxiety.

This piece constitutes a deep part of the soul and personality of Vassos Kapantais: the joy of love, the bliss of beauty, the radiance of girls, the joy of life, spring, with all the associations that this word can bring to our minds.

Among the private works are the drawings of Vassos Kapantais, where the memory of places coexists with the forms of brilliant girls, as well as approximately 140 medals of various sizes, uses, and themes, some of which were created on commission, while others were made as works of the sculptor.

A large part of his work draws its themes from the experience of 1922: the uprooting, the massive displacement of the Greek population of Asia Minor, the violence that usually accompanies such events, refugee Greece.

A characteristic of his sculpture is that it finds ways to exist between abstract space and figurative representation without negating either one. His work, which detests formalism, did not conform to the methods of a dominant European current of his generation but strongly retained his own internal world and space.

Vassos Kapantais positioned himself within the Greek artistic scene in a peculiar way. He never wished to hold a solo exhibition in a gallery. As a sculptor, he wanted to create public work, culminating in the piece at Chrystostomou Smyrnis Square.

He lived voluntarily, relatively isolated, with a few good friends, with his thoughts and the hardships of life. He shared his journey with his people and his work. A very strong, contemporary, complex, significant, cutting-edge, pioneering work.
