This book by George Vasiliou is not just an account of the government's administration of the country over five years. Through its lines, an organized effort to reverse the dead-end path that Cyprus had followed regarding the resolution of the Cyprus problem is documented.

It also reflects the attempt for a radical reorganization of the structures of the state and society, so as to meet the demands of the modern era and create the conditions for those modernization reforms that were necessary for the country to move forward, liberated from anachronistic structures and burdens of the past.

The "inexperienced" in politics, George Vasiliou, had the acuity to immediately and correctly read the political context, to fully exploit the convergence of interests towards the direction of a solution, to creatively collaborate with the Secretary-General and his representatives in the negotiations, and to positively contribute to the final formulation of the Ideas document and the Gali Map, which to this day remains a reference point in the pursuit of resolving the Cyprus problem.

In internal governance, the presidency of Vasiliou marked a milestone. It was during this period that institutions such as the University of Cyprus, the Commissioner of Administration, and the Environmental Service were established. It was during this period that parameters were introduced for combating partyocracy, nepotism, and favoritism, and it was during this period that the monitoring of citizens for their political beliefs was abolished, resulting in the deepening of democracy and the expansion of individual freedoms.
