Atmosphere: An exciting intellectual journey illuminating the transition from the ancient world to the Christian era.
Seven centuries that radically changed Europe in a small book. Eleni Glykatzis-Arveler knows how to explain to us simply, clearly, fully how we transitioned from the 12 main and countless peripheral gods to Christ.
How did the spiritual life of people change? What role did political and social conditions, the "barbarians," and the Greeks play? How did this gradual passage from one era to another not only shape the way we think today, but also give new meaning to even the words we use.

Because it helps us understand the roots of many customs and beliefs we have to this day.
This book is for you if...
Are you interested in learning how the Christian world was "born" from the depths of antiquity and how these two worlds ultimately managed to coexist.
Read an excerpt:
"The transition from Zeus to Christ was not a sudden upheaval, but a long and complex process where the old met the new. Temples changed use, festivals acquired new meaning, yet the human need to communicate with the divine remained the same. Christianity did not erase antiquity; it absorbed it, transformed it, and used it as a vehicle to spread throughout the world.
In this journey, the Greek language and thought played the primary role. Without the tools of Greek philosophy, Christian doctrines would have been difficult to formulate and understand by the people of that time. It is striking to see how ancient values survived within new traditions, creating what we call the Greco-Christian culture.
That’s all from me, then: an attempt to trace the continuity of our history at one of its most critical turning points. Because only by understanding how we moved from the Olympian gods to the Christian faith can we grasp the depth and complexity of our own identity."
