It is the story of the brave Manoli who became a lord in his land. I learned it from my grandmother, but it was also written as a traditional verse and it is still sung by Cretans at their celebrations:

"With your parents' blessing and God's gifts, never fear anything, no matter where you are. Open wide to the sky and to Christ's grace and become like Manoli, great and a hero."
