The PLA filament is available in many shades, as well as different types within the Real brand. PLA (polylactic acid) is one of the oldest and most commonly used materials in the 3D printing community, primarily due to its advantages as a versatile and environmentally friendly thermoplastic. It is both organic and biodegradable, and can be easily combined with other components to influence its final properties, such as flexibility and metallic appearance.

The colorless form of Real PLA is transparent and has a printing temperature range of 195 - 205 degrees (depending on the characteristics of the hot end). The dark shades of Real may require a few extra degrees of temperature due to the coloring process. The filament should extrude smoothly and appear slightly glossy. PLA is denser and more durable than ABS, but it is more brittle and prone to cracking under high loads. It is also less resistant to outdoor exposure (UV light and water) compared to other common thermoplastics (e.g., Nylon, ABS, and PETG).

PLA can print well on a non-heated surface using Blue Painters or Kapton tape, as well as most 3D printing adhesive labels. For convenience, it is recommended to use sprays like 3DLAC on a glass surface. A low surface temperature between 50 - 60 degrees further reduces the risk of warping and facilitates the removal of the final print once the printer surface has cooled down.
