How much does the geographical location and the geophysical map of a country influence the course it will follow throughout history? Can we truly argue that the new globalized order can defy geographical and geopolitical realities? In The Revenge of Geography, Robert Kaplan traces the history of the world's conflict zones by examining their climate, topography, and proximity to other war-torn regions. This book serves as an excellent response to those who claim that globalization will prevail over geography and illustrates how timeless truths and physical realities can help us anticipate the coming disasters of this century.
THE AUTHOR Robert Kaplan was born in 1952 in New York City. A journalist and author, he is one of the most significant contemporary thinkers on geopolitical and international relations issues. He is among the most widely read authors who attempted, after the Cold War, to outline the murky landscape that emerged after the fall of the Soviet Union and the collapse of the bipolar world. He has taught at various universities and colleges as a visiting professor, as well as at the particularly high-demand and high-standard military schools in the U.S. From 2009 to 2011, he served as an advisor to Defense Secretary Robert Gates on the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board. For two consecutive years, in 2011 and 2012, Foreign Policy magazine included him in the list of "Top 100 Global Thinkers." He lives with his wife and son in Western Massachusetts, USA.
