Description

Meet the 2nd updated English edition! The second English edition of this globally recognized textbook is fully updated to include the discovery of the Higgs boson and other recent developments, providing undergraduate students for the first time with a complete description of the fundamental elements of the Standard Model of Particle Physics.

The book places greater emphasis on the physics and less on mathematical completeness, making the material accessible even for students without knowledge of elementary particles. Additionally, it highlights the significant experiments and the theory related to them, making it easier for students to understand how important ideas in the field were developed.

The chapter on Neutrino Physics has been completely revised, while the final chapter summarizes the limits of the Standard Model and presents the topics that are not covered by it. The book includes more than 250 problems to give students the opportunity to apply theory in practice, along with succinct solutions to selected problems.

Alessandro Bettini is Professor Emeritus of Physics at the University of Padua in Italy, where he has been teaching Experimental, General, and Particle Physics for forty years. He conducts research in Subatomic Particle Physics for the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics and is the Director of the Canfranc underground laboratory in Spain.

A powerful book. It dissolves the ...misty landscape of elementary particles, putting things in a good order. It is easily readable without requiring advanced knowledge.
