Nowadays, there is a continuously growing interest in Byzantine painting. This is practically expressed through international exhibitions, conferences, and the writing of important studies.

This reality, in our opinion, necessitates an in-depth study of the relevant sources and literary testimonies that have survived from the Byzantine and post-Byzantine periods. Within this context, this book is included, in which an effort is made to analyze in detail and thoroughly aspects and facets of the "Interpretation of the Art of Painting," a book written in the early decades of the 18th century by the Athonite Dionysius from Fourna in Evrytania.
