BOOK II (7th-6th century BC): Victory of Rome over Alba Longa; the rise and fall of the Tarquins. The prophecies of the Sibyl and other oracles.

BOOK III (509 BC): Brutus and his colleagues Collatinus and Valerius.

BOOK IV (504-494 BC): Attacks from neighboring peoples. Clash between patricians and plebeians, internal strife, victories over enemies, and reconciliation.

BOOK V (493-449 BC): The story of Coriolanus, the heroic self-sacrifice of the Fabii, Cincinnatus and the creation of the Twelve Tables law.

BOOK VI (445-391 BC): New divisions; the institutions of the tribunes and the censor. Famine, attempts to impose tyranny, Cincinnatus's saving intervention. Victory and death of Postumius. Successes of Camillus and the hatred of the people against him.
