It was, I believe, a common belief that a modern, comprehensive Greek guitar method for beginners was needed. This method covers this need, its content starting from the beginning and reaching approximately the middle of the preliminary class."Kitharokosmos 1" has several innovations. However, it also follows the average teaching practice prevailing in our country. The main characteristics of the method are:

•  It is comprehensive, it does not require a "parallel" method. It covers all the theoretical elements needed. The student is systematically trained in notes, values, rhythmic patterns, various techniques of both hands, and is educated in psychological - "mental" issues that contribute to good playing. Various musical elements and useful information, advice, recap questions, examples, photos, etc. are provided. In general, everything that a beginner student needs to know is included.
•  It is modern in the sense that it incorporates all widely accepted new techniques and perspectives, such as: correct hand posture and position, meticulous finger placement of both hands with the extensive use of the "a" finger (which is gradually practiced), various "holds", polyphonic playing (which is usually neglected), wider use of vibrato, etc.
•  It is enjoyable and pedagogical. It is written in a language easily understandable by children. In the numerous exercises I wrote, I tried, as much as possible, to make them melodic, using both modern and Greek sounds. In the over 100 monophonic melodies and songs included, I wrote simple accompaniment, to be played by the teacher or more advanced students. This way, the beginner student functions as a "little musician" from an early stage, contributing to a complete musical result.
•  It is taught sequentially. All individual topics are developed simultaneously in "equal doses" and the arrangement of the material is completely progressive. Each technique is prepared and all theoretical or technical elements are addressed at the point and to the extent needed.
•  All necessary studies of classical composers (over 20) are included, within the framework of the Ministry's official program. The student's taste is also gradually cultivated through various musical stimuli.
•  The techniques are precisely defined and classified, and the well-established guitar terminology is clarified. In short, this book aims at the comprehensive training and correct technical foundation of the student, based on solid foundations and in a systematic, concise, and enjoyable manner.

"Kitharokosmos 1" is the result of years of research and work, and I hope that it will help colleagues and their students in guitar teaching, giving a new breath to our educational "things" and facilitating the work of teachers at the same time.
