Its functions are well-known (L2, LAG, IGMP, QOS, VLAN), I will mainly talk about some things that stand out or confuse.
Currently, almost all versions of this device are available in Greece (v1, v2, v3, v4, v5). The hardware versions theoretically do not have significant differences, but in practice they do. In earlier versions, there were complaints about instability where the switch needed to be restarted frequently. This is version v5, and in a month of operation, I did not turn it off at all. It operates steadily and does not heat up at all.
In this version, the left green light of each port lights up when the connection is 1000M, while the right orange light lights up for 10/100.
In the 5th version, another important difference is that through management, we can turn off all the lights (including the power light). This could not be done in any of the previous versions, nor will it be possible with future firmware updates.
Boot time: Approximately 35 seconds.
Regarding the Cable Test, they have cut 1-2 cables from the ethernet cable to see if the test works, and it did not show any problem with the cable. The cable test does not measure continuity voltage in the 8 cables and will not detect if one of them is cut. However, it measures packet loss and tells you approximately where the problem is. Packet loss can be caused by interference from neighboring cables or even a cut cable. But a cut cable does not necessarily mean that the network will be lost or that there will be packet loss. Out of the 8 UTP cables, only 4 are used, and the other 4 are for shielding. So, do not cut your cables for the cable test. If there is a problem, it will show it.
Positives:
> Very sturdy metal construction, I think it could withstand being run over by a car.
> It can function as any unmanaged switch, meaning even your grandmother can plug it into the socket and it will work without any configuration or initial setup. And when the grandchild with knowledge comes along, they can easily adjust anything they want from the menu.
Negatives:
> I would say its weak point is perhaps the power supply, but it is a common 9V 0.6A DC Jack.
> The power supply and the ethernet ports are not on the same side. This is convenient for large rack mount devices to have all the cables at the back, but in a small device that is placed on a desk or wall, this prevents having tidy cables or the device resting against the wall.
Οι λειτουργίες του είναι γνωστές (L2, LAG, IGMP, QOS, VLAN), θα μιλήσω κυρίως για κάποια πράγματα που ξεχωρίζουν ή μπερδεύουν.
Αυτή τη στιγμή κυκλοφορούν στην Ελλάδα σχεδόν όλες οι εκδόσεις αυτής της συσκευής (v1, v2, v3, v4, v5). Οι Hardware versions θεωρητικά δεν έχουν σημαντικές διαφορές, αλλά στην πράξη έχουν. Σε παλιότερες εκδόσεις υπήρχαν παράπονα για αστάθεια όπου χρειάζονταν επανεκκίνηση του Switch αρκετά συχνά. Αυτή είναι η έκδοση v5, σε ένα μήνα λειτουργίας δεν το έσβησα καθόλου, λειτουργεί σταθερά και δεν ζεσταίνεται καθόλου.
Στην έκδοση αυτή το αριστερό πράσινο λαμπάκι κάθε πόρτας ανάβει όταν η σύνδεση είναι 1000Μ ενώ για 10/100 ανάβει το δεξί πορτοκαλί λαμπάκι.
Στην 5η έκδοση μια ακόμα σημαντική διαφορά είναι πως μέσω διαχείρισης μπορούμε να απενεργοποιήσουμε όλα τα λαμπάκια (μαζί με αυτό του power on). Σε καμία από τις προηγούμενες εκδόσεις δεν μπορούσε να γίνει αυτό, ούτε και θα γίνει με μελλοντικό firmware.
Boot time: Περίπου 35 δευτερόλεπτα.
Σχετικά με το Cable Test, έχουν κόψει από ethernet cable 1-2 καλώδια για να δουν αν δουλεύει το test και αυτό δεν έδειχνε πρόβλημα στο καλώδιο. Το cable test δεν μετράει τάση continuity στα 8 καλώδια και δεν πρόκειται να βρει αν έχεις κόψει ένα από αυτά. Μετράει αν έχεις packet loss όμως και σου λέει που περίπου βρίσκεται το πρόβλημα. Το packet loss μπορεί να οφείλεται σε παρεμβολές λόγω διπλανών καλωδίων, ή ακόμα και σε κομμένο καλωδιάκι. Αλλά ένα καλωδιάκι κομμένο δεν σημαίνει υποχρεωτικά πως θα χαθεί το δίκτυο ή πως θα έχουμε packet loss. Από τα 8 καλώδια του UTP μόνο τα 4 χρησιμοποιούνται και τα άλλα 4 είναι για θωράκιση. Μην κόβετε τα καλώδια σας λοιπόν για δοκιμή του cable test. Αν υπάρχει πρόβλημα, θα το δείξει.
Θετικά:
> Πολύ στιβαρή μεταλλική κατασκευή, νομίζω θα άντεχε να το πατήσεις με αυτοκίνητο.
> Μπορεί να λειτουργήσει σαν οποιοδήποτε unmanaged switch, δηλαδή μπορεί και η γιαγιά σου να το βάλει στην πρίζα και να δουλέψει χωρίς να χρειαστεί απολύτως καμία ρύθμιση ή αρχικό setup. Και όταν βρεθεί ο εγγονός με τις γνώσεις, εύκολα πειράζει όσα θέλει από το μενού.
Αρνητικά:
> Το αδύναμο σημείο του θα έλεγα πως είναι ίσως το τροφοδοτικό, αλλά είναι ένα κοινό 9V 0.6A DC Jack.
> Η τροφοδοσία και τα ethernet ports δεν είναι στην ίδια πλευρά. Αυτό βολεύει σε μεγάλες rack mount συσκευές για να είναι όλα τα ρεύματα από πίσω, αλλά σε μια μικρό συσκευή που έχουμε ακουμπησμένη στο γραφείο ή στον τοίχο, αυτό εμποδίζει να έχεις συμμαζεμένα καλώδια ή να ακουμπάει η συσκευή στον τοίχο.
