The work "Maritime Safety: Legal Issues Concerning the Ship, Cargo, and the Human Factor" includes the presentations and contributions from the 9th International Conference on Maritime Law held in Piraeus.

It also includes three presentations by young legal scholars with research interests in the field of maritime law, which were awarded in a scientific competition during the Conference.

A key feature of maritime law science was that the presenters provided useful analyses regarding contemporary issues such as the liability of shipowners due to the actions of armed guards, the refugee flow from the perspective of maritime law rules, and the liability of passenger carriers in light of recent fatal accidents, focusing on safe navigation, seaworthiness, the impact of safety failures on the cargo, and the human factor at sea.

This book contributes to the improvement of the legislative infrastructure of commercial shipping, the administration of justice, and the cultivation of legal maritime expertise for younger scholars and practitioners.
