Description

The hectic pace of urban life drives us to seek outdoor activities for relaxation and enjoyment that provide contact with nature. Hiking is a form of such an activity that offers a sense of adventure and exploration, while also providing a unique immediacy with the natural environment.

Additionally, it is beneficial for health and does not have a significant cost. The book you hold in your hands aims to present you with many of the potential challenges you may face while hiking and provide you with useful instructions and tips on how to deal with them.

Moreover, it will generally be useful in situations where outdoor survival knowledge is essential. It may also help you become a better citizen of the forests, mountains, deserts, and valleys, offering guidance for a more harmonious coexistence with both fellow adventure enthusiasts and the wildlife that call these places home.

Very good collection of information in just 126 pages.

    Highlights:

    - Concentrated instructions on how to find the North, with or without a compass, in a concise and understandable way for anyone to use. It includes the most well-known methods except for cases of orientation using a church or cemetery.

    - In 4 pages, it presents a multitude of knots (candle, bowline, etc.) with sketches that are fully understandable.

    - It contains detailed and analytical lists of what your a) backpack should contain b) first aid kit should contain. You don't find this in all survival books. Of course, one could say that these lists are not complete or that they need modifications.

    - It includes several instructions for signals that one can make or leave behind to be found, in case, heaven forbid, one gets lost.

    - The book comes with a built-in soft case with a zipper and thick transparent plastic (as you can see in the photo), so it doesn't get wet and is easy to carry. The front and back cover of the book are inside pockets that have the 2 sides of the case. You open the zipper, read, close the zipper, store. Excellent idea, especially for a survival book, which could also be used for other books.

The author rightly mentions that it is good for the reader to acquire a separate book for first aid. Certainly, a concise survival book cannot cover everything.

The colors chosen are a deep olive for the text and red for the sketches. Green could have been chosen for the sketches and black for the text.

The book, although it covers encounters with bears(!), wild boars, etc., could also address encounters with foxes, which is a common phenomenon in Greece, especially at dusk, even on roads next to cities or villages close to mountain foothills.

It is good to possess such knowledge and anyone interested will find other books on this topic.

Purchase is recommended, especially at the price of 4 euros.
