Description

Description

The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 75/15 is the top charge controller for solar systems 12V and 24V. With advanced MPPT technology for maximum efficiency even in cloudy conditions, built-in Bluetooth for control via smartphone, and the smart BatteryLife function, it ensures maximum battery lifespan and the fastest possible charging.

Ultra-fast MPPT Technology for Maximum Efficiency

The SmartSolar 75/15 uses the fastest Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technology, which continuously monitors the voltage and current of the solar panels. This allows the collection of the "last drop" of energy, especially in conditions of variable cloudiness, offering up to 30% better performance compared to conventional PWM controllers.

Built-in Bluetooth & VictronConnect

Monitor the status of your system in real time from your smartphone. Thanks to the built-in Bluetooth and the free VictronConnect app, you can set charging parameters, view production history, and update the device's firmware. For remote control, the regulator is compatible with the VRM (Victron Remote Management) portal.

Smart Battery Management (BatteryLife)

The exclusive BatteryLife function by Victron protects your batteries from destructive full discharge. If sunlight is insufficient for a 100% recharge, the SmartSolar intelligently adjusts the load disconnect limit daily until a full charge is achieved. This process prevents plate sulfation and significantly extends the lifespan of your battery.

The best. I have been using it for two months with 2 solar panels 2x24V in series. Bluetooth connection and real-time performance analysis. I highly recommend it.

    SmartSolar 75/15

I got it for a small autonomous unit for occasional use.

The only significant difference it has from the corresponding blueSolar is the built-in Bluetooth. However, if one refers to the application in the current version 5.60 (May 25, 2022), they will read in the notes: "***BlueSolar 70/15 not supported."

    - It is ideal for small or portable units such as caravans, boats, etc.
    - It has external protection safety (20A).
    - It weighs approximately 490 grams.

Attention! The charger can absorb a maximum of 200 watts at 12V and 400 watts at 24 volts from the panel(s). Therefore, if we want to utilize a panel power greater than 200 watts, we must set up a 24V battery arrangement and a corresponding inverter.

The charger's self-consumption when operating at 12V is approximately 0.23 watts when charging and 0.12 watts when not charging.
The charger's self-consumption when operating at 24V is approximately 0.39 watts when charging and 0.19 watts when not charging.
    The efficiency reaches 98%.
    Maximum current is 15A.
Of course, all these values are under ideal conditions.

A few words about the Bluetooth connection:

    1) The application requires not only enabling Bluetooth but also allowing access to location.
    2) During the first startup, when the device becomes visible in the application, at 80%, the application will stop and a notification may be heard on the mobile device. This happens because the application requests pairing with the mobile device and requires our approval and the initial 6-digit pin of the application. Therefore, we immediately go to notifications, find the pairing notification, and proceed.
    3) The application does not allow us to open it unless we proceed with upgrading the initial firmware. Therefore, for the first pairing with the device, the mobile device must have internet access.
    4) The application may require more than one upgrade.
    5) Files saved with the settings and current history are automatically deleted with each application upgrade (*). So, be careful for those who save the history to disable automatic upgrades and regularly transfer the data to their personal database before proceeding with an upgrade.

(*) Newer versions cannot open files created by previous versions (see photo 3). Because details make the difference, I advise downloading the manuals and reading them carefully before purchasing any equipment.

    Edit 28/07/22

    Disadvantages:
After several uses, I found that it heats up above 5A. The temperature increases exponentially when the ambient temperature is above 30°C. We're talking about burn temperature. I tried makeshift passive cooling (see photo 5) with an aluminum heatsink and intermediate 10x10 thermopad with a thickness of 2mm. The charger's temperature returned to the ambient temperature. Now, I consider the use of a heatsink necessary during the summer months to avoid sudden death. This behavior of the charger increases the initial cost, which I cannot overlook in the rating.
