The book by Kleantis Grivas titled "Cannabis - Marijuana - Hashish" is published by IANOS. In this book, Kleantis Grivas, armed with his passion for individual freedom, sharply addresses a major issue of contemporary society, the problem of "drugs." Utilizing his extensive knowledge, he analyzes the usefulness of the "misunderstood" cannabis in human daily life, arguing by shedding light on the topic from all its aspects: the medical-pharmacological, the historical and social, the political and cultural, the economic and ideological, as well as the philosophical and ethical side.
Introduction: For entire millennia, cannabis played a crucial role in human survival as a source of energy, nutrition, and clothing, as well as a therapeutic and euphoric means. But for the past sixty years, it has been subjected to persecution as a threat to human existence. Until 1937, humanity used cannabis to meet many of its daily needs. After 1937, self-serving self-appointed "protectors" of society from drugs elevated it to "ultimate evil" and imposed a ban on its cultivation and the prosecution of its users.
How was it possible, within just a few years, for a plant that, until the mid-19th century, constituted one of the largest agricultural crops on the planet and a significant raw material for the global production of means to satisfy many daily needs to transform from a blessing into a curse? This critical question demands an answer that cannot be indefinitely obstructed by the combined political and economic interests behind the prohibition of cannabis and the persecution of its users.
The following books by Kleantis Grivas are published by IANOS: Planetary Domination and Drugs (2006), Resistance in the Age of Nothingness (2004), Opiates: Dependence and Detoxification (2002), Psychiatric Totalitarianism (1985).
