In the preparation of this edition of Rigas Velestinlis' revolutionary pamphlet, my primary concern was the restoration of the text's historicity. This concern dictated the methodological choices that guided the edition, and especially the decision to rely on the manuscript of Kythira for the text of the revolutionary pamphlet. In composing the introduction and the comments, I tried to forget - a rather difficult task - what I had written about Rigas and his ideas in previous studies and to approach once again this exceptional and enigmatic form of the common history of the Balkan peoples through the prism of his era, in order to reassess my previous interpretations, encountering again "the lost child of peripheral Jacobinism," as Michel Vovelle aptly characterizes him.
