In 1997, the Swedish Academy awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature to Dario Fo, a decision that, as he himself said in his speech, caused upheaval both in papal circles and in the Italian circles of the "elite."

Dario Fo's speech was accompanied by 25 of his sketches, because "...this gives me the opportunity to improvise, to exercise my imagination and to force you to use your own imagination..."

However, Dario Fo's speech before the Swedish Academy was not a typical acceptance speech for an award. It was essentially a theatrical performance that included jokes, movement, pantomime, and storytelling. The book captures the original sketches as well as their Greek translation. Additionally, the entire speech of Dario Fo at the awarding ceremony is included.
