A rare document that sheds light on one of the most horrific crimes in human history. In Nuremberg, the site of the first post-war tribunal for war crimes, American psychiatrist Leon Goldensohn conducted a significant number of interviews with the Nazi war criminals on trial.

Goldensohn passed away in 1961, and his unpublished records are brought to light for the first time thanks to historian Robert Jay Lifton, who curated the material. Goldensohn arrived in Nuremberg in early January 1946, nearly six weeks after the trial began, and remained there until the end of July of that year.

During this time, he frequently discussed with many of the twenty-one detainees and had formal and extensive sessions with most of them, including Hermann Göring, Joachim von Ribbentrop, Hans Frank, Ernst Kaltenbrunner, and Rudolf Höss.

These interviews constitute an important supplementary material to the trial transcripts and the history of the Third Reich. At the same time, they reveal both the hidden history of the Third Reich and the psyche of the individuals who turned ideology into madness.
