The "KUBARK Counterintelligence Interrogation Manual" was released in July 1963 as a classified document, filled with codenames, addressed only to officials of the CIA, the Central Intelligence Agency of the USA, with the purpose of indoctrinating active and prospective interrogators of the Agency into the secrets of interrogation and developments in that field.
At the time the manual was written, the Cold War between the then East and West was at its peak. The manual is rife with references to scientific studies in the fields of psychology, medicine, and technology concerning types of drugs, the use of hypnosis and anesthesia, the lie detector, the study of the human body and mind under extreme conditions of isolation and deprivation of sensory stimuli.
Although large sections of the manual pertain to the historical period during which it was written (and thus serve as a valuable tool for any student of the Cold War), because basic human traits never change, the manual, beyond its historical value, constitutes a very interesting study of human nature and its (not so many) variations.
The Greek edition is accompanied by many original comments that help the reader better understand the "Spy War" that was being fought between the two major global blocs during the writing of this legendary manual.
