Description

The history of art, as it evolved after World War II, constitutes an important chapter of the world cultural heritage. During this period, art became imaginative and rich in modes of expression, yet at the same time difficult and enigmatic.

In both old Europe and the United States of America, which pioneered the shaping of new pathways, movements and trends were formed that contain elements of representation as well as abstraction. The book presents various artistic trends in a chronological sequence across five major sections – Abstraction, Expressionism, Realism, and many other visual avant-gardes that developed up to the early years of the 21st century – along with their representatives.

The second edition has been enriched with new information and comments about artists referenced in the first, and has included the works of more Greek creators, both older ones, such as Georgios Zongolopoulos, and newer ones. A separate chapter has been created for Giorgos Lappas, one of the most important creators of the younger generation, who, according to the consensus of art historians and critics, can be included among the ranks of the great modern Greek sculptors.

Additionally, there is a reference to Greece during the crisis of recent years, primarily through the analysis of works by very young creators, each experiencing modern reality in their own way. The text is comprehensible, scientifically substantiated, richly illustrated, and is addressed not only to students but also to non-specialists, to those who wish to gain a comprehensive picture of the artistic happenings of the period, where Greece will also be present.

Second augmented edition.
