Description

In recent decades, there has been an unprecedented and remarkable advancement in imaging techniques for the internal organs of the human body. This progress has followed two different, not opposing but complementary, paths that can be succinctly classified into the following two groups:

a) the imaging of anatomical structures (both normal and pathological) in a way that provides exceptionally detailed photographic images, but not significant functional information, at least in the early stages, and

b) the functional imaging of various organs with less anatomical detail, but significant information about the function of the imaged organs.

The installation of a Positron Emission Tomography unit, either as a standalone facility or within a broader diagnostic center or hospital, requires prior training of at least two groups of physicians and technicians: • nuclear medicine physicians, who will be responsible for the operation of the unit and their necessary collaborators.
