About this piece: “The chrysalis is the protective cover in which a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly. The title is a metaphor for the relationship between a mother and her teenage daughter—a time of letting go, in support of the emerging independence. The mother’s first response is to protect her child. But the greatest gift is to provide the love and trust that helps her daughter find wings to fly. The emphasis of this piece is on the daughter. It is her emergence, her transformation, her unfolding. The title is indicative of this particular time in life.”
