Under the Christmas tree, like every year, there’s a mountain of gifts. The whole family is gathered, and the celebration begins. Everyone unwraps their packages. Raphael, the youngest, unwraps a beautiful wooden train with bright colors. His cousin Gregoire, older than him, pulls out a super lightweight tennis racket that the magazines advertise. Their aunt Agnès is already deep into the user manual for her new laptop. Dad puts on a DVD in the DVD player, while mom wraps herself in her cashmere shawl.
Do these Christmases resemble all the previous ones? Not exactly. This year, in this French home, as in many others, it’s a Christmas evening… very Chinese. The train, the racket, the PC, and the shawl: all these items were labeled "Made in China." However, that evening, it wasn’t just the gifts that were Chinese: the colorful baubles, the lights, the small decorative Santa Clauses, even the tree was from China!
