Georgios Sphrantzes, one of the four historians of the Fall of Constantinople, witnessed all the diplomatic developments of his time closely and, as a trusted member of the Palaiologos family, played a significant role in the events that marked the last years of the Byzantine Empire.

In his work, he recorded the most important Greek-Turkish military confrontations just before the Fall, the desperate attempts of the last emperor to avoid the impending disaster, as well as incidents that occurred in the palace which were secrets of the royal family.

His narrative is vivid and descriptive, while the tragic moments of the fall of the City are described in a concise yet shocking manner.

The Chronicle of Georgios Sphrantzes, therefore, is presented in this volume in modern Greek, accompanied by an informative introduction and explanatory comments, so that the reader can better understand the historical conditions that sealed the end of the Queen of Cities.
