"The History of the Greek Nation" by Konstantinos Paparrigopoulos is one of the first attempts at a comprehensive recording of the history of Greece in recent years. Paparrigopoulos, our "national historian," presents Greece in antiquity, in Byzantine times, during the period of Turkish rule, and during the years of the Revolution in five "books" (in newer editions, the division of the material into volumes varies).
The summary of Paparrigopoulos' "History of the Greek Nation" in many of its reissues was supplemented with information concerning ancient Greek and modern history. These additions were incorporated into Paparrigopoulos' original text without altering the author's style. Such interventions were made by Man. Protopsaltis (Director of the General State Archives), edited by Mich. Petridis (High School Principal-Literary Scholar), who linguistically processed Paparrigopoulos' text and transferred it from archaic to modern Greek. [...] (from the book's preface)
