Its installation is inset, meaning it is recessed into the countertop with its rim protruding. This is the easiest and most common installation method for kitchen sinks. Essentially, the weight of the sink is supported by the countertop itself, with some support points underneath for stabilization. Sealing is achieved with insulating material, such as silicone, placed around the perimeter of the hole, under the rim. A major practical disadvantage of inset sinks is the rim, which makes cleaning difficult and does not allow water that falls on the countertop to be wiped directly into the bowl.
