Antigoni Foka, née Apostolou Melissaratu, was born and raised in Romania. She spent her childhood in Braila, a major trading city and a large port on the Danube.
Having lived a difficult life, filled with many struggles, hardships, and toils, she often recalled and cherished the happy period of her childhood.
At some point, she wanted to bring that era back to life by putting her memories on paper. The text that emerged, with its intensely subjective character and evident emotional weight, takes the form of a testimony about the period before and after World War I.
