Most Greeks from Galatsi or Galazio, as they pronounced it, came from Cephalonia and Ithaca and were always in competition with neighboring Braila.

They started the construction of their church three years later than the Greeks of Braila (1866) with the German architect Knab. The church of Galatsi, although it does not have the dimensions of the Braila church, impresses with its elegance and follows the neoclassical trend that was prevalent in Europe at that time.

Notable are also the thirteen stained glass windows as well as the portable icons of the altar with portrait characteristics in the faces of the apostles, similar to the corresponding icons of the altar of the Archdiocese of Athens, while the depictions of Christ follow the Ionian style.
