Description

Description

This volume gathers studies from the years 2000-2003 that are the result of recent scientific research and relate to Popular Theatre and Brecht's theatre, the direction of ancient drama and ancient Greek mythology in contemporary Greek comedy, the codification of acting and the presence of technology in modern Greek dramaturgy, and the contributions of Gr. Xenopoulos and P. Matesis to the shaping of Greek theatrical discourse in the 20th century.

In addition, some earlier works that are now hard to find for researchers are republished, but still (I believe) maintain their interest, such as those on Arcadia in Greek theatre and the significance of prologues in Cretan theatre, the function of time in D. Kehayidis' Panigyri, and intertextuality in the work of I. Kampanellis.

The reader has the opportunity to take a stroll through the history of modern Greek theatre from the time of the Cretan Renaissance to the present day and to be informed about issues that relate in various ways to theatrical creation, gaining a holistic view of the function of theatre as a multidimensional cultural phenomenon.
