No one of us understood when it all began… Was it when we started drawing little figures with chalk or when they started appearing on their own?
In the summer of 1986, a group of twelve-year-old children goes to the fair in Anterberry, a town in southern England. There are Eddie, Gav, Mickey, Hoppo, and Nicky, the priest’s daughter. A larger girl is seriously injured at the amusement park, and Eddie helps rescue her along with the new school teacher, Mr. Halloran, the chalk man...
When Mickey returns to Anterberry after thirty years, he announces to Eddie that he will write a book about the events of 1986 and asks for his help. The next day, Mickey is found drowned in the same river where his brother had drowned... An asthma-inducing thriller in the footsteps of Stephen King. Keep the lights on!
“The Chalk Man will remind you of It by Stephen King. With a fast-paced and clever plot, Tudor captures the closed, almost threatening atmosphere of a small village.” –Kirkus Review
“A promising debut… dark like the darkest fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm!” –Publishers Weekly
Si Jay Tudor was born in Salisbury and grew up in Nottingham, where she still lives today with her partner and daughter. She loved literature from a young age, especially dark and macabre stories. While her friends read Judy Blume, she devoured the works of Stephen King and James Herbert with passion. Before turning to writing, she worked as a reporter, waitress, copywriter on the radio and in advertising agencies, salesperson, and TV presenter. The Chalk Man is her first novel.
