The oldest "living" encyclopedia, over a thousand years old, crafted from ancient as well as medieval materials, one of the most valuable sources for antiquarians, historical researchers, philologists, linguists, and archaeology enthusiasts.

Extensive in scope, with a multi-collective structure, it constituted an ambitious work that aspired to include "all the ages and all the genres of philology" - a true treasure trove.

Its author, an avid lover - and collector - of literature up until that time, made no distinction between ancient and medieval Greek, between rare words and scholarly phrases, and words and popular expressions, above all interested in enriching it with a large number of entries, drawing from earlier lexicographic works, with the aim of covering the encyclopedic interests of its readers.
