An effort has been made to balance the development of recent regulatory requirements, modern seismic design methods, and my research work in order to make it useful for broader application of design practice.

I also attempted to present, in a condensed yet comprehensible manner, all the necessary information for the seismic design of masonry buildings constructed with traditional structural systems.

The fundamental principles of limit state control are presented, and equations for the seismic design of all types of masonry constructions (unreinforced, confined, and reinforced) are provided, as well as for reinforced concrete infilled frames.

A method for seismic control is also developed, compatible with the requirements of the recent regulation. In all cases, experimental results are used to explain the proposed method and the equations.
