Description

Description

The G.Skill Aegis, named after the ancient Greek mythology, "Aegis" the shield of Zeus, is aimed at users who demand high performance and stability from their computer.

DDR4

DDR4 is the fourth generation of RAM technology for computers. It replaces DDR3 and offers increased speeds and greater capacity than its predecessor.

Specifically, DDR4 offers operating speeds from 2133MT/s to 4800MT/s, latency (CAS Latency) from CL 9 to CL 22, while its capacity has increased up to 32GB per memory module.

For speed (MT/s) and capacity (GB), the larger size we choose and is supported by the motherboard, the better, while for latency (CL), we want the smallest size in relation to speed (MT/s).

The G.Skill Aegis provides a speed of 2666MT/s, with CL19 and 8GB per memory module.

Compatibility

DDR4 technology is compatible with specific motherboards and processors. Indicatively, DDR4 is compatible with Intel Skylake, Kaby Lake, Coffee Lake series processors and the latest Intel processors, as well as AMD Ryzen and Threadripper series processors.

However, for compatibility with your motherboard, you need to ensure that your motherboard supports DDR4 technology from the manufacturer. Compatibility depends on the processor platform and the type of motherboard you are using.

XMP & EXPO

XMP & EXPO is a technology that allows us to increase the frequency and performance of our computer's memory without the need for manual adjustments. (XMP/EXPO) is easily activated from the BIOS, available in certain RAM memories, and supported by certain motherboards.

The G.Skill Aegis has (XMP 2.0/EXPO) profiles with performances:

  • Speed (XMP/EXPO): 2666 MT/s
  • CAS Latency (XMP/EXPO): 19-19-19-43
  • Voltage (XMP/EXPO): 1.20V

Cooling & Design

The aluminum material along with the high-quality construction helps to keep the memory and the entire computer at a fairly low temperature and stability even in the most demanding operations.

  • Very good, I have installed 2 of 16GB in a PC I built in 2022 and use daily. I have had no problems so far. (08/2025)

  • There is cheaper memory and I chose the better one because I believed it had coolers on top of the photo, but it is a sticker. I bought extra coolers afterwards.

  • We used them in a build that you can see here: https://youtu.be/9bAkwQLPwbQ

They have good value although they are relatively slow, if you have an H410 or older chipset and cannot take advantage of higher frequencies then this particular set is just what you need.
They are quite ugly up close as they simply have a sticker stuck on top of the chips and it is also quite dark so in the end you can hardly see anything.
Our ones are also a bit difficult and require several attempts until they play and the system posts.

  • Simply put, they are amazing, they have everything you need, you don't pay for the brand, you pay for the power... compared to Trident Z and in big tests like gaming and video editing on the same computer with the same settings... zero difference.
