Makronisos, as is well known, operated as a camp for the "reform" of communists. As a place where violence was inflicted by the "right-thinking" rulers of the country for the ideology, faith, and principles of tens of thousands of political prisoners.
The countless horrific tortures endured by those transported there, both communists and others, in order to recover, with the assistance of the "architects" of the new "Parthenon," establish the island as a symbol of resistance against violence, with national and global significance.
It is included in the network of horrific concentration camps of international fame, such as Dachau, Auschwitz, Mauthausen, and today Guantanamo.
