At school, we learned that a prime number is one that is divisible (exactly) only by one and itself. What we did not learn is that prime numbers coincide with the most tormenting mystery that human knowledge struggles to unravel.

330 BC: Euclid, in his Elements, proves that prime numbers are infinite, throwing down the gauntlet to mathematicians of the following centuries. Where is the standard form (the mold) that produces these numbers? Who is the next one?

1859, Academy of Berlin: German mathematician Bernhard Riemann presents a treatise regarding the mystery of prime numbers. His Hypothesis promises the solution to the archetypal riddle. However, shortly thereafter, Riemann dies. The next day, his landlady (who surely could no longer bear the hypochondriacal genius of the great mathematician) cleans the house and consigns all his personal papers with those peculiar notes to the fire.

2005: Riemann's Hypothesis still remains the number one obsession of top mathematicians. It is considered much more difficult and undoubtedly more significant than Fermat's Last Theorem. Its proof would shake the foundations of security in banking transactions and e-commerce. It would bring about cosmic consequences in the evolution of science, as prime numbers lie at the intersection of Quantum Mechanics and Chaos Theory, determining the future of Computer Science.
