The fact that a title is released in the market and has managed to compete head-on with EA and FIFA despite the HUGE lack of licenses, the mediocre to bad Master League, and the other game modes, says a lot. On one hand, we have FIFA 19, which has everything a complete football game title should have in 2018, and on the other hand, we have PES 2019, which has very few licenses, outdated game modes, but thankfully, the community provides us with option files and the licenses are somewhat saved.
However, when we talk about PES, we talk about gameplay. We forget about the "decorations" for a while and focus purely on the existence of these games. In this aspect, Konami has taken it to another level. In the first few days, I cursed the moment I bought it. But generally, I am a person who gives enough time to all games to convince me. Within this time frame, PES made me take my hat off to it because I realized that we are dealing with the closest thing to a football simulator that has ever existed until today... So close that at first, it annoys you when you finish a 10-minute match on Top Player level and see statistics of 2 shots from one team and 3 from the other... But once you get used to this philosophy, the enjoyment in this game gradually starts. It's not a "love at first sight" title, but if you give it time... there's no turning back. There are still some issues like slow response in defense sometimes when you want to clear the ball, but I hope that this and some other issues can be fixed with an update.
The graphics are amazing (finally), but the sound, as we have always known it, is mediocre and has become tiresome after so many years. The Master League was supposed to be significantly improved, but the only thing that changed is the transfer system, which is still unacceptable. Also, realism exists on the field for PES and stops there, as in the Master League, you can easily see players like Martial, Sterling, etc. transferring to Brazilian, Russian, and similar teams... Ridiculous!
In general, a title that I recommend solely for its fantastic gameplay and photorealistic graphics, and for no other reason, as Konami continues to disappoint itself, not so much for the licenses, but for the rest of the game's "package" with the uninteresting game modes and a Master League that desperately needs a change, but the Konami manager doesn't listen...
- Update: However, what I mentioned earlier regarding the gameplay and the response when trying to clear the ball when defending personally, for me, has turned from a minor issue to a major one, as I notice that almost half of the goals I concede come from the aforementioned poor response to commands... It's a shame because otherwise, a great job has been done, and it has led me to spend less and less time dealing with the game in order to avoid frustration with either the controller, the TV, or anything in front of me. It becomes increasingly annoying over time!!!
