The emergence of the surrealist movement in Greece ignited a volatile situation in the realm of Greek letters, characterized by sharp reactions.

After the publication of `Ypsikaminou` by Empeirikos, for a period of five years, the daily and periodic press of the time was flooded with texts related to surrealism.

The attack unleashed against the movement was unprecedented and exceeded the bounds of a usual literary dispute. At that time, those who did not use traditional expressive means were labeled surrealists and condemned.

The `Surrealist Scandal` retraces the texts of the era and describes the reactions that occurred with the emergence of the surrealist movement in our land, while concurrently attempting a bibliographical recording of the texts from the period 1935-1940 that refer to surrealism.
