They may not be as large as their siblings from the Tropics, but they have nothing to envy in terms of shapes, colors, and... cleverness.
This book of 240 pages presents the marvelous world of orchids in Crete and the Dodecanese, featuring 70 species with 23 subspecies, while another 5 species are considered questionable or unstable.
For each plant, there is a detailed description and reference to the habitats in which it is endemic. Additionally, the species with which it hybridizes are mentioned. The possibility of confusion with other species is highlighted, and methods for distinction are indicated.
The plant description is completed with the flowering time, a distribution map, and abundant photographic material. This is followed by cartographic diagrams of the distribution of orchids across the 4 islands and an analysis of the status of some specific habitats, particularly those that include species threatened with extinction.
Immediately afterwards, 86 different hybrids are presented. At the end, a series of excursions is suggested to assist the reader in quickly familiarizing themselves with the enchanting habitats of orchids in the South Aegean.
