Description

Description

The G.Skill Ripjaws is aimed at demanding computer users, such as gamers, professionals in video and image editing, designers, and those who require high performance from their laptop or compact PC.

DDR4

DDR4 is the fourth generation of RAM technology for computers. It replaces DDR3 and offers increased speeds and capacity.

It offers operating speeds from 2133MT/s to 4800MT/s, response times (CAS Latency) from CL 9 to CL 22, while its capacity has increased up to 32GB per memory module.

For speed (MT/s) and capacity (GB), the larger size we choose, the better performance we will have in our system, while for response time (CL), we want the smallest size for the speed (MT/s) we have chosen.

The above characteristics should be compatible with the specifications of our motherboard.

Ripjaws provides speed at 3200MT/s, with CL18 and 16GB per memory module.

Compatibility

DDR4 technology is compatible with specific motherboards and processors. Indicatively, DDR4 is compatible with Intel Skylake, Kaby Lake, Coffee Lake series processors and the latest Intel processors, as well as AMD Ryzen and Threadripper series processors.

However, for compatibility with your motherboard, you need to ensure that your motherboard supports DDR4 technology from the manufacturer. Compatibility depends on the processor platform and the type of motherboard you are using.

XMP & EXPO

XMP & EXPO is a technology that allows us to increase the frequency and performance of our computer's memory without the need for manual adjustments. (XMP/ EXPO) is easily activated from the BIOS, is available in certain RAM memories, and is supported by certain motherboards.

The G.Skill Ripjaws has (XMP/ EXPO) profiles with performances:

  • Speed (XMP/ EXPO): 3200 MT/s
  • CAS Latency (XMP/ EXPO) 18-18-18-43
  • Voltage (XMP/ EXPO): 1.20V

Cooling & Design

The aluminum construction material helps to keep the memory and the entire computer at a fairly low temperature even during the most demanding operations.

Very good RAM, reliable brand. No problems. They worked exactly as they should.

    Upgraded from stock (2x8GB Crucial 3200 (CL22)) to Aorus 17G (11800H/RTX3060).
Benchmark (stock/CL22) Shadow of the Tomb Raider (Ultra without RT) - Average FPS 87 / GPU bound 6% (bottleneck)
Benchmark (G.Skill/CL18) Shadow of the Tomb Raider (Ultra without RT) - Average FPS - 105 / GPU Bound 1% (Bottleneck)

This specific RAM is also available with CL 16, but the difference is very small. Depending on the game, the differences will vary (either little or much), but the only sure thing is that the bottleneck will be at its minimum when the CL is smaller (at the same Hz always)
