The book at hand is intended to meet the academic needs of students in the Theology Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in the course "Topics in Chanting Art."

For this reason, it was not aimed from the outset at developing original scientific topics in ecclesiastical musicological research, but rather at providing an introductory view of broader fields within it.

However, the specialized musicologist will find many and extremely interesting elements that are revealed for the first time, most of which resulted from systematic research into the handwritten tradition of chanting.

Moreover, the content of the book includes some presentations from conferences or previously published works that are inevitably more specialized texts.
