The Gioconda by Nikos Kokandzis was first published in 1975 and has been continuously reissued since then. It tells the true story of the first love of two young people in Thessaloniki during the German occupation, a love that is violently interrupted when Gioconda, along with her family, takes, like many other Jews in the city, the road of no return, the road to the concentration camps.
