Continuing with only my own strengths the effort I have undertaken for almost four decades and analyzing within the cell of my work, of solitude and collection, the elements of the behavior of modern Greeks and the structure of their society, I now present to the public the fifth volume of "The History of Modern Hellenism" which deals with the years 1813 to 1822 of the Greek Revolution.

This period has been studied more than any other in modern Greek history, yet a synthetic work worthy of its significance and the warm presence of its people, the main subject of history, has not been revived. Their absence is the characteristic mark of most historical works and the hastiness with which they are written.

From the early years of my scientific career, I had begun to engage with the era of the Revolution, exploring in specific monographs fundamental social issues of those years, such as the thousands of refugees, the captives, the structure of society, the psychology of the revolutionized people, and the tactics of the troops.

In the new volume of "The History of Modern Hellenism," utilizing the findings of my earlier works, as well as my own later years of extensive research and notes, I attempt to provide a renewed and comprehensive picture of the epic of the Greek people as complete as possible, with a systematic tendency to delve into the psychology of individuals and masses.
