The short story "In Christ's Castle" by Alexandros Papadiamantis is one of the most beautiful Christmas stories. In this story, as well as in the other stories included in this book, one can discern Papadiamantis' "loves": His homeland, Skiathos, with its natural beauties, the rocks, the seagulls, the waves, the uphill paths, the cliffs. Then, the simple and humble islanders, with their customs and traditions, prejudices, weaknesses, cunning, toil, and anxieties. Finally, his love for the church, the chapels, the priests, the religious ceremonies.
