The familiar Greek traditional music, in terms of collective musical life, continues to remain, as it appears, an "unknown land" within the realm of formal educational practice.

The driving force behind these publications is to equip young musicians, who are in the initial stage of learning the instrument, with the type of material that will enable them to practice the rhythms and melodies of traditional musical art. The fertilization of musical imagination is the constant goal.

The primary elements of these arrangements are: (a) the adoption of a stripped-down version of the melody. (b) the emphasis on the monophonic texture. (c) a drastic limitation of harmonic movement, as rich harmony is "foreign" to the traditional style.
