This volume gathers ten studies and covers theoretical and historical topics of Greek theater studies, while in one point it transcends the limits of the stage and engages with literary themes of Cretan literature. It includes methodological topics from Greek and European theatrical history, such as the significance of local theatrical historiography, the "dark" years in the history of European theater during the first millennium, the principles of Mediterranean shadow theater in medieval Egypt, and the comparison between Greek-speaking and Slavic-speaking theater in the Eastern Mediterranean in more recent times. It also addresses open research questions posed by the publication of the Cretan religious poem of the late Venetian period, the Old and New Testament. Following are studies on pre-revolutionary Greek theater in Odessa, the significant names in modern Greek dramaturgy, the youthful theatrical work of Nikos Kazantzakis, the drama of the interwar period, and the work of Vasilis Ziogas.
